Press Release
Fourth Concert to Benefit Diocese of Renk

An evening of "Hope and Music" will be sponsored by St. Barnabas Episcopal Church 22W415 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137. The concert will be held at Barrows Auditorium,Wheaton College,Il. The Auditorium is located in the Billy Grahm Center at 500 E. College Ave. Entrance to the auditorium is on the east side of the building.

Several years ago the then Bishop Daniel Deng-Bul of Renk came to St. Barnabas and presented the needs of the people and described in detail the deprivation of health care, of church and of food to mention a few of the basic needs existing at that time. His message touched the hearts of many people in the congregation. Under the leadership of our Priest, Matt Gunter, some of their needs were met through our capitol campaign. Healthcare, however remained a huge gap. St. Barnabas has a number of very talented and generous musicians who agreed to host a concert for the Outreach Commission benefitting the health care of our brothers and sisters in the Sudan. In addition, a gifted singer, Tina Beverly, of St. Micheal, Barrington joined the group as did a professor from the Wheaton College Conservatory, Lee Joiner, of St. Mark, Geneva. This year we are adding more talent Dawn Holt-Lauber of the Glen Ellyn Covenant Church as well as WHPK Jazz in Flight show host "Phoenix" Hamiliton who is also a pianist for St. Margaret's of Scotland. The music program is an eclectic one. It includes classical, jazz and blues. In other words "something for everyone" and "Healthcare for the people of Southern Sudan".

This is a night of beautiful music that impact directly the lives of people in Renk Diocese, Sudan. Thus far we have equipped a lab with a new microscope, medications, especially malaria medication which needs to be replenished on a regular basis. Our goal is to help the Healthcare Center NOT run out of medication this year.We have also worked with a church in Virginia to build a new clinic and supply it with furniture. This is a very small project we realize but we have such joy in being faithful in our smallness. Remember, Febuary 21st, Saturday at 7PM An evening of Hope and Music. Lost Boys have been invited to join us and sing. Call St. Barnabas (630)469-1394 for more information.
